Our team

RAJKIRAN

GENRAL MANAGER

Rajkiran has been a valued member of our team since we first opened our doors in April 2012. She started as a volunteer and became our first paid member of staff and then first shop manager. She went from knowing nothing about children’s goods to becoming a fountain of knowledge about all things baby!
After giving birth to her wee boy during lockdown, we were excited to have her back as our general manager. She now works behind the scenes to ensure everything is running smoothly.

ROISIN

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Roisin joined the team in Jan 2021 (two hours before lockdown #4 ) to manage the operations at our sorting hub. Roisin loves all things second hand and spent many years working for charity retail and loves it. As a new mum during the pandemic she jumped at the chance to join Merry-go-round.

MARK

RETAIL SUPERVISOR

Mark joined us through the Community Jobs Scotland scheme back in 2014, and we liked him so much we kept him! Mark started as a stockroom assistant but it turns out he was hiding brilliant sales skills that needed to be used.
Mark is now our full time retail supervisor and customer service expert.

JAMIE

RETAIL ASSISTANT

Jamie joined us in May of 2022. After 7 years of corporate retail he wanted to use the skills he had learned in a more positive and community driven environment. In his free time he enjoys all things craft and design from carpentry to cross stitch.

NICOLE

RETAIL ASSISTANT

Nicole also started with us through the Community Jobs Scotland scheme for 6 months but has now been with us for almost 10 years! She also moonlights at the Hydro and sees more gigs than any of the rest of us combined!

JENNY

STOCKROOM ASSISTANT

Jenny works in our sorting hub quality checking all our amazing donations so that they can be sold through the shop or put into partnership packs. She says the best part of her job is knowing that her job is preventing so much good quality clothing from ending up in landfill

SHANNON

E-COMMERCE ASSISTANT

Shannon loves all things tech and preloved clothing, so when she saw Merry-go-round was a hiring an e-commerce assistant she knew that she would be perfect for the job. Shannon helps to keep our website up to date and manages our online shop and eBay sales. When she’s not uploading all the fresh stock, Shannon can be found at cinema watching the latest films or at the theatre having a sing-song to her favourite musicals.

NICKI

EVENTS COORDINATOR

Nicki moved to Glasgow just before the first lockdown with her husband and 2 daughters.
Nicki joined Merry-go-round not so long ago in April 2022 but it feels like she’s part of the team for years.
You’ll often see her making cups of tea and coffee for families in the events space and encouraging folk to hang out and make new friends.

GILLIAN

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Gillian has worked in the voluntary sector for more years than she says she is prepared to admit. She enjoys meeting and working alongside volunteers and seeing them flourish and grow. Gillian loves finding new ways to support the volunteer team and is always looking for new opportunities. Gillian also loves photography and capturing precious moments with her camera. She also hosts seasonal photography sessions in the Merry-go-round events space.

LAUREN

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER

Having studied a research masters focusing on sustainability, Lauren was inspired to persue work with a social enterprise. She joined the team in September 2021.
We soon found out that she has a creative streak too and enjoys crochet, cross stitch, creating graphics/illustrations AND plays bass in an all girl band called Flinch!
She recently moved from being a retail assistant to our community engagement officer.

MERRY-GO-ROUND BOARD

SAMANTHA, LAURA, LYNNE, PAULINE

Merry-go-round is run by four members of the local community. Sam founded Merry-go-round after having her son Elliot and realising how much baby stuff was cluttering up the planet. She was determined to ensure at least some of it went to a good home and wanted to encourage other families to buy pre-loved rather than new goods for their little ones. Laura Thom first met Sam at a breastfeeding class when they were both very pregnant and heard Sam talking about her dream of opening Merry-go-round. She got roped in to get the shop up and running and has now joined the board.  Lynne Dent, a local resident and mum, works for the BBC and has joined us to bring her management expertise. Pauline Stewart was next to join the board and has transformed our operations with her incredible planning skills!

If you are interested in joining the board please contact us to find out more.
